2009 Interview Hints

So, what do you do to prepare yourself for the interview?

You’ve received a call about the job – the job that you want.  They want to see you for an interview.  So what can you do to make sure that you get that job?

What to do before…

  • Research the company via the internet, newspapers and contacts.
  • Prepare answers to likely interview questions – practise makes perfect
  • Recite your ‘tell me about yourself’ answer by heart.
  • Think about what you want to find out about the job and the company.
  • Confirm location, interviewer’s name, date and time – don’t be late
  • What to do during…

  • Present yourself in a professional manner appropriate for the environment. Appropriate dress code is a key indicator.
  • Give them valid reasons why you want the job.
  • Make sure you talk about your past experiences and relate them to the position available.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  • SMILE!
The interviewer will evaluate how you look, speak and present your ideas.  You alone are responsible for selling yourself.  Remember, an interview is a two-way process and while your ultimate goal is to secure the job, the immediate aim is to move forward a step in your job search and find out if the company and position is the right one for you! Good Luck!
