Sustainable Timber Tasmania is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise responsible for managing approx. 800,000 hectares of public production forests.
Its role is to sustainably provide environmental, economic and social benefits from these production forests for current and future Tasmanians.
The Board of Sustainable Timber Tasmania has six independent non-executive directors (currently four women and two men) and all directors are appointed in accordance with the Government Business Enterprise Act 1995.
Applications are sought from non-executive directors who have an interest in sustainable forest management within Tasmania. Ideally the appointee will have a professional legal background and an exceptional governance record, preferably with AICD qualifications and experience in natural resource management.
Currently Directors are required to attend ten board meetings per year and up to 3 associated intrastate field trips. Directors are also required to attend an annual planning meeting and are required to be members of at least two Committees.
Sustainable Timber Tasmania operates in accordance with a number of statutes including principally the Forest Management Act 2013, the Government Business Enterprise Act 1995 and the Forest Practices Act 1985. More information can be sourced online at www.sttas.com.au.
The successful candidate will have values similar to those of STT. They will be highly regarded for their accomplished legal and governance background, be available for travel to or within and around Tasmania, and importantly have a commitment to sustainable forestry practices. Remuneration is based on Tasmanian government guidelines.
